Happy Wednesday! Welcome back to another What I ate Wednesday! Hosted by Jenn over at Peas and Crayons. This week is another collection of meals from the past few days plus my weekly meal prep.
Not sure if anyone has actually noticed but it is very rare that I will just post a full day of what I ate. Reason being I hate comparison. I remember way back when I was the most critical of my eating I would read up as best as I could on how many calories I should eat, what I should eat, etc… What I ate Wednesday would have been a gold mine for me. I would have taken notes, thought I was eating too much, not enough etc… Every body is different and no two people are going to have the same needs when it comes to nutrients. So long story short this is why I don’t believe in posting a full, exact day of meals, because I don’t think anyone should fall into the comparison trap. Your body knows best what you need, so listen to it!
Okay that being said let’s get on to some of my favorite meals from the week.
First off, the prep. Lean ground meat, quinoa, bell peppers, roasted carrots, broccoli, and zucchini. Perfect to mix and match for meals throughout the week.
Example one of prep coming together: Quinoa, lean ground beef, broccoli, and carrots.
Example 2: Quinoa, edamame, broccoli, zucchini, bell pepper, and carrots.
Spaghetti Squash Bake (recipe is coming I’m just going to change some things around) Served with shrimp.
Paleo Dinner: Steak, asparagus, and spinach and cherry tomatoes.
Cooked Mixed Berries.
To make these all I do is combine blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries and simmer over low heat with 1/2 of an orange zested along with the juice from 1/2 of the orange.
Easy Dessert.
Last but not least I had to share this picture of Sophie. It’s been freezing and she loves to be outside so I make her wear sweaters. I promise I’m not that person who just dresses her for fun!…or maybe I kind of do
Sweet Girl
So tell me: Do you fall suspect to the comparison trap when it comes to nutrition, food, and eating?

I am so sad that the Spaghetti Squash season is over here. No way to find it anywhere! I am much better with the comparison trap. I used to be awful with it and even panicking when I saw someone eating less. Today I really try to listen to my hunger feelings – which is successful sometimes and sometimes not
Sophie’s sweater?? Total cuteness!!!
That is so awesome you are getting better about comparison. Listening to your hunger is always going to be a work in progress but it will get easier with time!
Hi, Danielle!
I’ve been reading your blog for quite a while, but coming out of the eating disorder background I’ve never dared to comment.
Love your food (being celiac and following the moderate paleo myself) and Sophie – she’s such a doll.
I’m participating in WIAW party, but I highly doubt it as most of my readers have/had food issues – comparison is inevitable and extremely triggering. I tried to leave some food out, but that got things worse. So I don’t think I’ll continue doing this.
Now I’ll repeat myself – your meals are awesome and inspiring. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Hey Greta! Always feel free to comment! Your opinion is always welcome. WIAW definitely can be tough if you are working through some of your struggles with food and it is okay to admit that and decline on joining. Doesn’t mean you’re any less awesome! I’m always here if you need to chat. We may have more in common than you might think
Totally agree with the comparison! It’s silly.. and unnecessary. Love your pup! <3
Agreed! And thank you!
That shrimp meal looks really good. It’s been forever since I’ve had shrimp….I need to change that! Sophie looks beautiful as always!
Thanks Kim! Shrimp is my favorite!
I used to compare my meals with others and worry about if I was doing something wrong, but luckily I’ve moved on from that. Now I view blogs and think about all the great ideas I see. Some I try, some I modify, and some I know aren’t for me.
The baked squash sounds like something I’d like to try!
I totally agree. I get so many great meal ideas now from other bloggers but if it’s not something that will work for me no big deal either!
OOOH
that berry hothothot combo?
DROOL!!!!
It was amazing!
My diet is so crazy that comparison isn’t really an option.
Love your mix and match meal prep -I often cook things up plain so I can change up flavors suring the week. Hate to be bored!
I agree. I get so bored if I eat the same thing all week so this method has been working well for me!
Ummm I definitely dress Zoey for fun!! #noshame
Hahaha I love it! It’s just a little too fun. Our poor girls
Amen to never posting a full day of eats – it’s something I avoid as well because I definitely know how damaging the comparison trap can be. The only thing that bugs me is that some readers STILL don’t realize that what shows up on blogs isn’t usually a full day of eats, and they go on to assume that they should be eating less than what they are
Very true Amanda! I totally wish I could convince every person not to fall into that trap!
It’s really hard to not compare during WIAW. But I just constantly remind myself that I’m healthy, I’m enjoying the food I eat, I exercise, and I’m happy. Therefore why do I need to compare to others? Now I just focus on what recipes look good to try out myself! I love your pudding idea for definite!
Great attitude to have Anna!
when I first started blogging and a lot of the blogs that I read did WIAW posts I would constantly compare myself to them.
Agreed! So happy we are past that!
I always love how you show us different ways to cook one thing and seeing this post actually reminded me that i haven’t eaten quinoa for sooooo long! So i think i’m gonna do this tomorrow night
So happy you liked it! Quinoa is one of my favorites lately!
Cooked berries look awesome! Yummmy
Thanks Kierston!
Your weekly meal prep looks nearly exactly the same as mine this week! Swap the ground beef for chicken, add a tupperware container of roasted butternut squash, and we’re prep twins.
I’ve found that making large batches of ingredients than can be mixed and matched is the best way to go because I can never predict what I’ll be craving on any given day.
Like you, I used to fall into the comparison trap BIG TIME. Now, what I see in WIAW posts does nothing more than inspire me with new meal ideas, however I’m sensitive to the fact that my posts likely impact others’ decisions. It’s such a tough call though; it’s my hope that posting what I eat serves as positive reinforcement for women who are struggling to nourish their bodies!
Happy Wednesday, Danielle! <3
I agree Sara I always get such great ideas from your WIAW posts too. I always look forward to them. I would like to think that these posts do have a positive impact of fueling our bodies with great foods!
I like what you eat EVERYDAY, not just Wednesday!
Thanks Gigi!
Sophie looks SOOO fly! That shrimp looks so giant and delish. Mmm steak and veggies! Who doesn’t love a girl who can hold her own at a steakhouse?
I used to use WIAW to compare myself to others all the time when I first started reading blogs because I was trying to diet. When I entered recovery for my ED I stopped reading and got back into them after I’d adopted important mental “filters” for info I read. Now I know consciously not to compare myself so when I start doing it subconsciously, I have to tell my ego to stop. I always make disclaimers like the ones you do when I do a WIAW typical style post because I don’t want other girls who were like me to assume what I do is what they should do! That makes you a responsible blogger.
Love it Caitlin! My ego is definitely pretty loud when it comes to comparison but I am constantly working on telling it to stop too!
I absolutely fall into that trap. I often have the thought, “But all the other bloggers are doing it!”
Try to fight it Natalie. Only you know what your body needs most!
How cute is Sadie in that sweater?? She is so fashionable!
Hahaha thanks Hannah!
See…now that’s a dinner…when I tell people to eat steak, asparagus, and other veggies…it doesn’t sound good or make them excited… but if they saw your picture, it to the next level.
I love it! One of my favorite dinners!
Oh man.. I can’t wait for the spaghetti squash bake!! I have a spaghetti squash waiting for me. I can’t really fall into the comparison trap… I’m allergic to too many foods!
Recipe’s coming soon!
For some odd reason, I haven’t bought shrimp in quite sometime. After seeing your meal, I’m pretty sure I must change that asap!!!
Yes I think you need to!
Comparison trap is big thing that happens in the blog world!
Funny, the other day I tweeted that on instagram, how some people look like they eat so little and my meals are way bigger! We just have to do what is best for US! We know our bodies the best <3
So very true Katie!
