What I Ate Wednesday

by danielle on December 12, 2012

Happy Wednesday! Welcome back to another What I ate Wednesday. Hosted by Jenn over at Peas and Crayons. Big shocker for you today. I actually have a full day of meals instead of a random collection of meals from the week. This is huge right?!

Before we get to the meals let’s talk about my workouts. After an unexpected extended break from CrossFit this weekend thanks to a very sad puppy, I was finally back to CrossFit on Monday. Good news is 4 more days until the cone is off!

This means I was very excited to get back to CrossFit Monday morning.

The WOD Monday was right up my alley! OTMEM (on the minute every minute) for 20 minutes.

  • Even Minute: 3 Power Snatches
  • Odd Minute: 6 Front Squats (From the floor)

Loved this! I used 75 for the snatches and 105 for the front squats and it was the perfect weight. I definitely felt the front squats that final round. I finished by working on my strict pull ups 2-3 every minute for 10 minutes (still using the band unfortunately).

Tuesday’s WOD was not up my alley! OTMEM

  • Even Minute: 6 high box jumps
  • Odd Minute: 8 chest to bar pull ups

Box jumps terrify me for some reason. I think it’s because I’m the worlds biggest klutz and have a tendency to wipe out on the box! You should see my shins. I started off at 24 inches though and went up to 24inches plus a 25 lbs plate on top for the last few rounds. No chest to bar pull ups for me left but I did string together my kipping pull ups into sets of 3 which is exciting for me. Pull ups are a major weakness!

Now onto yesterday’s meals…

Breakfast was a 2 ingredient pancake. Not really two ingredients though, in the mix was 2 eggs, 1 extra small banana, a sprinkle of cinnamon and a 1/2 tsp. vanilla. I topped it with a little sun butter.

I apologize for the ugliest picture ever!

I went to CrossFit and returned home to eat lunch and refuel. I had spicy chicken with spinach and bell peppers. The recipe is coming soon. It was perfect though and kept me full all afternoon.

Dinner was a full plate cause I was hungry! Paleo turkey meatloaf, roasted veggies, and roasted potatoes. The nutritionist in me got pretty excited too about this plate because it is the diagram of a balanced plate. 1/2 with vegetables, 1/4 of protein, and 1/4 starch or grains. Yes I know I’m crazy!

DSCN1703

And that’s it….Pretty simple day of meals. I’ve been trying not to snack as often in between meals because I am such a snacker and have been feeling a lot more satisfied with well rounded Paleo based meals. They just keep me fuller.

So tell me…Are you a snacker or a 3 square meals eater??? I’m a little bit of both!

That is so cool to get to know a bit more about you and your workouts! I am the same – I HATE box jumps. Somehow I just can’t jump – it’s in my head, I am terrified! The meals look SO good. I never plan snacks, but when my body needs one, I always have one ready.

I love that approach! I usually just have whatever I’m craving for snacks too! Box jumps are so mentally scary!

I don’t blame you! Some days I just need tons of snacks too!

Yum!! Your pup is soo cute. I’m definitely more of a 5 or 6 meals a day type of girl. If I go too long without eating, it’s not pretty!

I get so grouchy if I’m hungry too!

I probably say this on every comment I make to your blog, but Sophie is just lovely. Glad she’s out of the cone soon – never a nice experience. I know my pooch hates it with a passion and just look so sad and pathetic.
I am definitely a three square meals a day kinda girl. I have snacks as well (usually between lunch and dinner and then after dinner). I like to have a proper meal at meal times and then snack on something small if I get peckish.

danielle December 12, 2012 at 7:29 pm

I agree! I prefer snacks but always feel better when I eat a regular full meal!

I had a horrible incident with box jumping in middle school, I’ve never done them sense! Your dinner looks delicious. Happy Wednesday!

Ah, so excited that your little girl only has a few more days left! How has she been doing w/ the cone by the way?

I usually have 6 meals throughout the day =)

Me too! I can’t wait to get it off. She’s actually doing so much better. She’s finally back to playing with her toys too!

Box jumps scare me too!

I’m a 3 meals a day + snacks kind of girl. I just like to eat all day long haha! ;)

I love the looks for that lunch!

I’m all about small meals. My trainer has me eats 7x a day. At first I hated it, but now
I can’t do without!

Thanks Laura. I bet it was an adjustment but it must keep your metabolism going all day long!

I am 100% a snacker. I eat every three hours or so . . . . and while sometimes it can be annoying, overall I prefer it that way. I never get too hungry (cause then I get hangry!), and I like to eat! :)

danielle December 12, 2012 at 7:30 pm

Hahaha love this response! I hate to be overly hungry too!

I love them too! So glad I’m not alone on that, I feel like everyone is afraid of white potatoes lately ;)

I am a eat when I am hungry person. I used to try to only eat 3 meals a day and that was the beginning of my ed issues.

Love this! I’m trying to be a eat when I’m hungry person too! Sometimes its 3 meals and sometimes its snacks all day long. No more meal plans for us!

I am both! I definitely eat the 3 basic meals of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but I normally make certain that my portions are not HUGE because I am always snacking throughout the day. I try my best to incorporating mostly healthy snacks with a few indulgences here and there. It is all about the balance! :)

Reply

danielle December 12, 2012 at 7:33 pm

Love the balance! It really is!

Lisa December 12, 2012 at 4:10 pm

Awe, poor Sophie. Glad she is getting better though! I’m a definite snacker. I have hypoglycemia, so I can’t go more than 2-3 hours without food, or I’ll most likely pass out. Not good. Mm..those roasted potatoes look good!

Reply

danielle December 12, 2012 at 7:34 pm

Not good at all! Keep up with those snacks!

Reply

Kierston December 12, 2012 at 4:19 pm

I am both. I snack and I eat my meals :)

Oh my gosh box jumps terrify me too. Well any type of jump like that. I’m so scared of wiping out haha. I used to snack all the time but since I started paleo I never snack. I eat three meals and they keep me pretty full. If I’m bored I snack on carrots or fruit :)

Reply

danielle December 12, 2012 at 7:34 pm

Me too! I’ve totally wiped out multiple times! It’s never pretty ;) I always feel fuller with my meals when they’re paleo based too. Must be all the protein, veg, and healthy fats!

Brittany @ Delights and Delectabesl December 12, 2012 at 4:52 pm

That WOD sounds killer! I do 3 meals with snacks in between usually. However, I have some serious drainage right now, so I have no appetite!

Reply

danielle December 12, 2012 at 7:35 pm

Aww that stinks! Hope you’re back to normal soon :)

Reply

Caitlin December 12, 2012 at 7:45 pm

I’m a snacker! I eat small meals and snacks in between. Prob b/c I love to eat :P your dinner looks SO exactly like many my mom makes. She makes fab turkey meat loaf and we love getting our carbs from taters and also roasting veggies. Your lunch looks amazing too. And the ugly pancake looks tasty, sun butter, good topping choice! I don’t do Crossfit regularly but my gym has boxes and sometimes I try to do box jumps on even the tiny one and I get SO scared too! also b/c of my klutzy tendencies.

Reply

danielle December 13, 2012 at 12:22 am

Hahaha we just can’t help the klutzy tendencies! It is so dangerous thought ;)

Amanda @ .running with spoons. December 12, 2012 at 8:49 pm

I’m definitely a snacker. Lately I’ve been finding myself a little TOO snacky, though, so I might try eating bigger meals hoping that they’ll keep me satisfied longer.

Reply

danielle December 13, 2012 at 12:23 am

I’m sure that will help! sometimes when I get snacky I never sit down to an actual meal and that just makes me hungrier!

Hi, can you post a weekly workout log? Would be cool.

Also, do you only buy organic or hormone free stuff? I don’t have any of that stuff where I live and am at a loss!!

Are those golden potatoes?

Reply

danielle December 13, 2012 at 2:57 pm

Hi Rachel! I will definitely keep a workout log in mind. That’s a great idea. They are golden potatoes I believe I got them at Trader Joe’s. I do try to buy organic and hormone free meats when I am able. If you don’t have any locally you can order it through a company such as wellness meats. If you can’t buy organic and hormone free I would at least buy locally and if that’s not an option I would try to limit your protein intake to sources you approve of, think eggs, beans, quinoa, etc…

I kind of love to snack, but now I’m not able to during the week since I’m teaching all afternoon. I’m starving afterwards!!! Delicious meals!!! I need to try 2-ingredient pancakes.

You definitely need to try the pancakes. They are super easy to make!
