Happy Halloween a day early! Today I wanted to prepare you for the biggest candy holiday of the season tomorrow! Just because it’s Halloween doesn’t mean you have to succumb to a major sugar overload on Halloween night! Here are some tips to keep you on track and some recipes to swap your candy for!
Sophie’s ready! Are you?
Survival Tips
- Buy candy you don’t like!
- Bring snacks with you to work so you won’t be tempted by office treats.
- Allow yourself one piece of quality candy. It can only be one so choose wisely!
- Make a goal to drink X amount of water on the day of Halloween. Choose an amount that is high for you, it will keep you less hungry.
- Eat enough on the day of Halloween. If you’re not hungry you’re going to be less tempted to eat.
- Do not arrive to any Halloween parties hungry. Have a snack before you go.
- Get in a morning workout to boost your energy for the day and keep you on track.
- Commit to a workout on Thursday morning with a friend. It will keep you accountable and on track!

I am jealous you all celebrating Halloween but glad on the other side we do not have all the candies around! Siwtzerland has no idea of Halloween
I will have to do such a survival guide for Christmas time!
Hahaha be happy there is not chocolate everywhere around you
i still havne’t bought halloween candy yet because i knew it would be gone before the spooky day! so tonight i’m buying a bag and taking whatever is leftover to work tomorrow!
That is a great plan!!! and I’m sure your coworkers will be happy with that too!
Awesome tips! I am definitely going to have to keep it in check tomorrow
Thanks Madeline!
Great post! I need to get a move on to making some of your yummy looking treats! I am always drooling at your posts ;D
Aww thanks Brittany!
Your last tip is my favorite
I think that people build up their anxieties waaaaay too much around the holidays, and the whole idea of off-limit foods and fear of going overboard is what actually pushes them overboard in the end. I think it’s important just to let yourself enjoy it – that doesn’t mean stuffing your face with candy, but allowing yourself to have some fun.
I totally agree! If you deny yourself chocolate at some point you’re just going to go crazy! No sense not enjoying the day!
Homemade rolo knockoffs + your puppy = best post ever! Thanks for the tips–dark chocolate makes everything better!
Hahaha Aww thanks! Those rolos look amazing!!! I need to try making them myself!
Precious Sophie! Aww. I LOVED (and laughed out loud) your first survival tip “Buy candy you don’t like!” Why haven’t I thought of that before!!! I always get the chocolate stuff so I can sneak some pieces…but seriously…time for me to buy black licorice or blow pops (things I don’t like!)
Hahaha I know right! I think its second nature to buy the candy we like!
I swear it’s like a moth to a flame every time I go Halloween candy shopping – somehow a bag of twix (my fave) winds up in my cart!
Hahaha well you have to be happy when you’re handing out the candy right?!
My kids go trick-or-treating tomorrow night. We all pick out a few pieces of candy that we really like and then I send the rest to work with my husband. I usually eat one reese’s cup and one kitkat. Those are my favorites.
I’ve been missing pumpkin muffins this year so we tried this recipe last night:
http://www.foodrenegade.com/pumpkin-cake-bars-with-cinnamon-icing/
Minus the frosting. They were AMAZING! Very similar to pumpkin muffins!
That’s a great idea! That pumpkin recipe sounds amazing! I also love the idea of sending extra candy to the troops! Should have included that too!
I love Lindt Sea Salt Dark Chocolate!
Great recipes you shared! Mmm Mm!
Love the puppy pics!
Never tried sea salt dark chocolate but it sounds amazing!
Love your tips. I wish they celebrated halloween out here. I’d love to hand out candy to little kids
Aww well you can still decorate for the occasion! If it makes you feel any better we never really get many trick or treaters where I am anyway! Sohpie in costume will most likely be the highlight of my night
Those Lara Bites look Sooooo good! Great tips btw – I will try not to succumb to temptation!
Thanks Sarah!
OMG Sophie is too precious for words! I love any and all pets in costumes haha
Thanks for the great Halloween tips btw! I’m thinking of making some Coconut balls tonight & have them ready for when the processed sugar cravings kick in!
xoxo, Grether
Sounds perfect!
That costume on your dog is the cuuuuutest!!! I am excited to look through all of those links–thanks Danielle!
Thank you! Enjoy the recipes!
Aww, Sophie wins the prize for best Halloween costume! So cute! Love these tips, Danielle. I agree with all of them, especially the last one. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a few pieces of candy every now and then–especially on Halloween! I plan on enjoying a few Reece’s peanut butter cups tomorrow, which have been my favorite my entire life. Halloween just wouldn’t be complete without them!
Thanks so much for the shout out! I want to try your Chocolate Coconut “Lara” Bites!
Reeses are my absolute favorite too! I agree with you on Sophie,I totally want to enter her in a puppy costume contest!
I haven’t really craved candy for awhile ever since I started eating healthier and cutting sugar from my diet. I am now a savory girl all the way! I used to eat so much candy on Halloween in high school, just because it was there. Now I’m out of that mindset and I’d rather enjoy a high quality meal than snack on candy all day. I’m glad for that!
That’s so funny that you used to love sugar in high school! Amazing how we can retrain our bodies by making a few tweaks to our daily eating habits!
Love your tips and especially the cute pics of Sophie! I plan to indulge just a little, but not go overboard. I especially like the tip to get an early morning workout in. I always seem to be less tempted after I’ve worked out. Have a fun Halloween!
Me too! Something about working out helps me to stay on track!
It helps that I can’t have most candy due to being gluten free and dairy free. I made myself some “healthier” almond meal cookies!
Plus, I’ve been making sure to get in my daily exercise!
Agreed! Certainly makes candy less appealing when I have to stop and check the label for gluten! It’s a blessing in disguise I guess!
Sophie looks SO adorable! I wish she could stop by my house!
I love your halloween tips, such great tips! I am not a big candy person, so I never have an issue with candy sitting around or what I buy for halloween!
Our trick or treat is Saturday now so not really going to feel like halloween tomorrow!
Happy Tuesday night! <3
How convenient to celebrate on Saturday! I wish that was what was happening here cause unfortunately I’ll be working tomorrow! Which is why I had to dress Sophie up so early! Happy Tuesday
I love the tip about buying candy you don’t like – I definitely have done that on more than once occasion.
It’s so helpful!! Without the option to eat it you just can’t overdo it!
OMG Sophie looks so adorable in her little costume and the pumpkin sweater. She is such a sweetie.
I am skipping the Halloween candy all together and just going out to dinner during the trick or treating time. Yeah I’m one of those people that we hated as children haha. I remember years when I would buy a bag of reeses and then eat like 10 of them and feel like crap. Never again!!
Hahaha that sounds perfect! I have to admit, I’m totally going to be the house handing out apples when I get older and own a house. My sister teases me about it all the time but I think it’s great that some stores are selling “healthier” halloween treats
Did Sophie pick out her outfit? LOL! How cute is that!! Totally satisfies my cravings on Halloween!
Hahaha thanks! She didn’t but she does however have several options! Someone couldn’t make up their mind
I love the “buy candy you don’t like” plan!!!! That’s genius. No candy corn in our house — I love that stuff!
Hahaha I thought so! I haven’t bought any candy corn yet either! It’s just dangerous!
Awww, such a cute little pup!
Great tips…especially buying candy that you don’t like! I’m not usually that tempted by all the candy since I’m not much on chocolate but the cakes and bars at parties will get me every time!
Thanks Heather!
