Getting my StitchFix

by danielle on December 19, 2012

Today I have something really awesome to share with you! A while back I read a review on the Fitnessista’s blog about Stitch Fix. After reading her review I immediately headed over to their site and signed up. I couldn’t be more thrilled with the company and am so excited to share it with you.  I am usually not a huge fan of product reviews on my site unless I absolutely love the product and this I certainly do.

stitchfix

What is it??? StitchFix is essentially a styling company. Once you sign up with them you fill out a detailed styling survey asking questions for sizing, style preference, color preference, price range, etc… It even went so far as to ask whether or not I liked certain outfits. They also request access to your Facebook page to get a better idea of your looks and personal style. You then pick a date to receive your “fix” and they send out a package with 5 clothing and accessories items. You are charged $20.00 for a styling fee which is later put towards your purchase. You get to try them on at home and if you like them you keep them and pay for the items. If not you can send back the pieces you don’t like, keep what you do, or just send everything back within 3 business days. They make this perfectly easy by sending along a prepaid shipping bag just in case. You can then repeat the process as often as you like. So every month you could potentially have  a new box of clothes at your doorstep.

What I loved??? I hate shopping. I love browsing and looking around but hate trying things on and never actually find anything I like. Solution: have someone pick everything out for me. I ended up loving everything in my first shipment and shockingly everything fit me great. Once you try everything on they have you fill out a survey for your next shipment to say what you liked and didn’t like about each piece. Even the colors were perfect for me. I’m usually a fan of darker colors and everything was grey, brown, or dark tones, aside from a blue dress which is the one color I tend to wear. My shipment came on the exact day it was scheduled t0. I liked trying everything on at home too. I didn’t have to worry about any horrific dressing room lighting!

Some really cool features??? Each piece comes with a card with some styling ideas for the piece. Here’s an example of one…  Only problem is now I want to buy everything else on the card. This might be dangerous! My package also came with a free gift of pretty post its! I think they know me too well…

I wanted to share this with you today because I thought it would be a really great present for some last minute shopping. How fun is it to get new clothes in the mail every month!

For more information and to sign up check out the site here

What are your thoughts on these monthly “boxes”??? They have them for everything now and seems to make everything so much more convenient.

Disclaimer: I was not compensated in any way for this review. I am however an affiliate of the company. I purchased my stitchfix shipment and wanted to share a really awesome experience and a really great company. Because I loved the company so I applied for their affiliate program and am now an affiliate!

I think this is a great idea! I’ve seen this a few times now. Did everything fit you well? I’d be worried things wouldn’t fit.

danielle December 19, 2012 at 1:41 pm

Yes! That was my biggest concern too but everything fit me perfect. They ask you a bunch of questions about sizes, weight, body shape, etc…plus once you get the box you fill out a survey of how everything fit so I’m sure the more you do it the better idea they get of your size, but everything was perfect the first time around for me.

I have signed up for two stitchfix boxes and both times really liked what they sent. I kept one item from one box and nothing from the other, though, either because it was a little expensive or it didn’t fit me perfectly. I am definitely a fan for all the reasons you said, though. It’s nice to try it all on at home and get some different designers to try out! I need to actually try another one soon now that you mention it!

That’s awesome Meghan. I agree with the different designers too. I think only one of the 5 items was a brand I had heard of. Everything else was new to me!

I saw this on Gina’s blog too and I thought it was so neat! It’s like having your own personal shopper. :D I like shopping, but I have such a hard time deciding what clothes to buy for myself, so I think I would find this really helpful!

It’s such a fun concept! Especially for people like me who hate to shop ;)

This is SO COOL. I love how they give you little styling cards too. I super need that with my lackluster skills. ;) I wouldn’t trust myself sending them back!

Me too! I am very uncreative when it comes to my outfits!

I also read this on Fitnessista’s site and was interested. I think it’s a great idea and agree that all of these monthly boxes are so convenient! But they’re adding up and my wallet is sad lol!

danielle December 19, 2012 at 6:33 pm

Aww hahaha I believe it! This is the only monthly box I get but there are about 10 others I would love to!

i LOVEEE things like this! i get birch box every month and absolutely adore it – it’s $10 and they always send you full-size products with the sample size ones which make it totally worth the 10 bucks – its fun every month to get these little treats! my coworker also raves about glossy box which is like birch box but a little more expensive

Reply

danielle December 19, 2012 at 6:34 pm

I agree it’s such a fun surprise every month! I’ll have to check out birch box and glossy box too!

This is a pretty cool idea! I definitely think it’s pretty neat. I like styling my outfits though…well actually only sometimes haha. I think I’m going to check it out!

Reply

danielle December 19, 2012 at 6:34 pm

Maybe I’ll have to have you style some outfits for me then. I could use some serious help!

Alysia @ Slim Sanity December 19, 2012 at 4:39 pm

I love going out to pick out my own clothes, but I too don’t like to try stuff on. Only if the mall is dead, I don’t like waiting in more lines than I have to! haha

Reply

danielle December 19, 2012 at 6:35 pm

I hate trying stuff on! Is it just me or is dressing room lighting always designed to make you look terrible?! It seems counterintuitive!

Amanda @ .running with spoons. December 19, 2012 at 8:35 pm

I’ve been tempted to try soooo many different monthly box subscriptions because I think they provide a level of variety that I wouldn’t necessarily lean towards otherwise. Great review, Danielle! I’m gonna have to look into them.

danielle December 19, 2012 at 8:36 pm

I agree! This introduced me to some new brands and they definitely picked some things out for me I wouldn’t normally choose!

I hate shopping too so it is so perfect! Definitely worth checking out!

Katelyn Rose December 20, 2012 at 5:48 am

Question…so you pay $20 a month toward your purchase? Can you give a price range for each of the items you receive?

Reply

danielle December 20, 2012 at 2:44 pm

Yes. The $20 is the “styling fee” but then if you decide to keep any of the items they take $20.00 off and put it towards that. The price range can vary depending on you. When you fill out your styling survey you fill out a range that you are willing to pay for tops, bottoms, etc…

Wow, I’d actually never heard of Stitchfix until reading this post! I’m 98% certain I’m going to sign up; it sounds like an amazing company, with excellent customer service! I’ve always dreamed of having a personal shopper, however there’s no way I’ll ever be able to afford one, so this is a pretty fantastic alternative! Thanks so much for sharing, Danielle! :D

I just have to let you know: when one of my friends was recently diagnosed with Celiac, she told me that the food she was going to miss most was White Chocolate Macadamia Luna Bars! I sent her a link to your GF recipe, and she LOVES them! She asked me to thank you for creating such a delicious (and healthy) alternative. :D She makes them once/week and even made me a batch, which I absolutely loved!

danielle December 20, 2012 at 2:46 pm

Definitely try stitchfix out! I was in heaven when I got my first box. It’s such a fun concept. Feel free to ask me any other questions you have too! That is so awesome about your friend and thanks for sharing. When I first got diagnosed with Celiac it was definitely overwhelming and there were so many things I couldn’t have so I’m so happy I was able to help her find something she could have :)
